When it comes to hosting a website in America, one of the premier choices is Bluehost. Bluehost are fully aware of their Indian userbase, and launched an India specific product known as Bluehost India. When trying to access Bluehost from India it’s likely that you’ll be taken to the Indian version of the site. You might even sign up for the service, feeling that it is exactly the same as regular Bluehost. Now the question must be asked of how good Bluehost India is. Is it the same product as Bluehost, and what can you expect from it?
One of the first things you have to understand about Bluehost India is that it’s a different product from the regular Bluehost.com. Bluehost is owned and operated by the EIG Group. The group own several other companies offering web hosting such as the ResellerClub in Mumbai. This is the service that Bluehost India is more akin to. Bluehost US and Bluehost India are two entirely different services that offer two entirely different user experiences. Don’t buy Bluehost India expecting to get Bluehost US.
In this review, we will delve deeper into the pros and cons of Bluehost India, and offer you our own personal verdict on the service. Keep reading our Bluehost India review to see if the service is right for you.
Even though the service isn’t exactly the same as Bluehost, there are still a number of pros to Bluehost India. The service does some things right. They include:
- Mumbai Servers
The service claims to have servers in Mumbai. This provides Indian users with fast speeds. It’s a good choice for clients with a Content Delivery Network who need to get their content delivered around the world. This isn’t that much of a positive when you consider content can be hosted anywhere in the world, but the closer the server is to you, the faster the speed. Bluehost India customers can also have a server in either the US or India, depending on which they prefer. This is another positive for the service. It allows customers in India to still host their CDN in the United States.
- Free Content Delivery Network
A content delivery network is key. You need to be able to deliver content around the world to reach clients, customers, and leads. Content is how leads become customers in the first place. Bluehost India makes it much easier for you to do this by offering a free CDN within the main package. You’ll have to provide your own content, of course, but you shouldn’t have much trouble sharing it with people around the world. This also saves you money on having to invest in your own separate CDN. It’s good that the service keeps everything together in one package like this.
Bluehost India caters to Indian users more than the regular Bluehost.com. All of the prices on the website are in the Indian currency INR. There are also plenty of localised payment options. It’s a good choice for customers without credit cards that need localised options. Localised websites like this are easier to navigate for the most part too. It makes things a little easier for Indian customers.
Even though the price of a hosting service isn’t an indicator of whether or not the service is worth it, Bluehost India is much cheaper than Bluehost.com. Customers get a fair amount for their money too. Even the most basic package offers unlimited disk space, data transfer, and email accounts, along with a global CDN. The cost of the service increases according to how many domains you want. You can either buy one domain, three domains, or an unlimited number of domains.
While there are certainly a number of pros to be found with Bluehost India, it’s not a perfect service. There are several problems relating to the service, which we will get into here.
Bluehost India might be cheaper than Bluehost.com, but that doesn’t make it better. The quality of this service is less than the standard Bluehost. The Bluehost service costs more, but one could argue they get more bang for their buck, so to speak. If you want a service that goes all out, then Bluehost would be the service for you. Bluehost India is certainly a case of paying for quality.
- Confusing Interface
Bluehost India has a confusing interface, especially if you’re used to – or just expecting – the standard Bluehost.com interface. The interface of the service is similar to that of the Reseller Club, which should be expected given that it is based on that service, rather than on the standard Bluehost service. Even so, it’s jarring to see the name “Bluehost” and not be presented with the typical Bluehost package.
- Lack of User Friendliness
Several customers have complained about the user-friendliness of Bluehost India. It is particularly bad if you choose to buy multi-domain hosting because it’s confusing to add more domains. It can also be difficult to install WordPress or do similar things with domains. The quality of service really is much less than with Bluehost US. The confusing interface is one of the major factors behind the lack of user-friendliness. There are only a few commands available through the main screen. It’s not like the Bluehost US interface that allows for plenty of user-friendliness. The Bluehost US interface has big friendly buttons that allow you to do just about anything. It couldn’t be easier to add domains, install WordPress, and do any number of other tasks through the interface.
- Down Times
When you purchase server hosting you expect the servers to be up as much as possible. One indicator of quality with a hosting service is uptime and downtime. Uptime refers to when a website is up, while downtime refers to when websites are down. The more downtime a hosting service has, the lower the quality of service. Downtime is a major issue with Bluehost India as websites go down all the time. This is very bad for your business, because it leaves customers unable to access your website and make purchases. It also reflects badly on your company when customers are unable to access your website. Uptime is important.
- Poor Support
All of the problems with Bluehost India could almost be forgiven if the service had good customer support. The issues wouldn’t be so bad if they were solved quickly. Unfortunately, Bluehost India has poor customer support. It takes too long to get a response from the customer service representatives and the solutions they offer don’t always work. A service can be judged by the quality of their customer support. The more a company really care about their users; the better the customer support and the better the quality of the product. Poor support always says negative things about a company, and Bluehost India is no different. The customer service team with Bluehost US is much friendlier and accessible.
Bluehost India comes somewhere in the middle. It’s not a really bad choice, but nor is it a really good choice – especially when compared to Bluehost.com. It’s nice that the website and all the pricing options are localised for Indian customers, but there’s too much wrong with the service for us to fully recommend them. If you don’t mind paying a little extra for quality and ease of use, then the standard Bluehost.com US is the right choice for you. Bluehost India is a good choice for some people, but not everyone.
Bluehost India would be a good choice if you aren’t able to make an international payment and have to pay in INR. A major cause for concern for us was the quality of customer support. The staff at Bluehost US are much more knowledgeable and friendly, and you need that kind of support on your side. The good news is that it’s super easy to switch from Bluehost India to Bluehost US. Almost as if they knew the services couldn’t compare, Bluehost include a handy button that takes you straight to the regular US version on the Indian site. If you find yourself on the Bluehost India site then you’re just one button away from the Bluehost US site.
